Lead diagnosis

Before signing the sale or rental of an old home, a lead diagnosis is planned

Very often, paints in older homes contain lead. This is particularly for paint prior to 1949.

Before this date, lead was commonly incorporated into coatings to improve their appearance and durability. There was a high risk of lead poisoning creating psychomotor disorders in children. Lead was banned in paint from January 1949, but old coatings with toxic particles remain in the interiors.

In order to prevent the risk of lead poisoning and other lead-related hazards in the population, it is therefore mandatory to conduct a specific diagnosis when attempting to sell or rent a dwelling whose construction dates from before 1949.

During the diagnosis, the technician examines the coatings and measures the level of lead contained in the old paints. In the event of severe paint degradation and if a rate of at least 1 mg of lead per cm² is noted, the lead report may include recommendations for work to clean up the property.

The entire document must be sent to buyers or tenants, before they sign the contract.
